ANIMAL CARE & CONTROL

THE LATEST COVID-19 UPDATES AND MCACC

We have altered both our field and shelter operations to minimize human contact for residents while remaining committed to public safety and lifesaving during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can help us save lives while practicing social distancing. Here’s a look at some of our changes:

Currently only our West Valley Care Center is open. Our East Valley Care Center is temporarily closed.

Supporting pets and people during Covid-19: Pets are family, and MCACC is committed to helping both our four- and two-legged friends who have been impacted by COVID-19. We have partnered with the top animal welfare organizations in the Valley to provide information, resources and a community rehoming/temporary foster network for struggling pet owners impacted by the COVID-19 housing crisis. Visit Pet Housing Help AZ for more information.

Adoptions and fosters: Visit our adoption page for details and to sign up for an appointment! Our regular adoption hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends at the West Valley animal shelter. Visit our adoption page for details.  We are utilizing appointment-only adoptions through online signups and a revamped adoption web page during the health crisis. Sign up here for adoptions and here for fostering. Please check through the day for available slots as appointments do open up.

In-person services: During the COVID-19 pandemic, services are limited to issuing licenses with a current rabies vaccination, stray dog intakes, stray dog bite intakes, stray cat bite intakes and lost dogs returned to owners at our West Valley animal shelter only. Owner surrenders are appointment-based only. Learn more about the process and how to schedule an appointment here.

Temporary closures: East Valley Shelter, 2630 W. Rio Salado Parkway, Mesa, ended adoption appointments April 5, 2020 and is temporarily closed for repairs and cleaning while it is vacant. No services will be offered there and no strays admitted. All dogs have been transferred to our West Shelter, 2500 S. 27th Ave. Phoenix, or other boarding facilities.

Volunteer program: After temporarily suspending the volunteer program in April, MCACC has begun bringing our existing volunteers back to the shelter on an extremely limited basis. Visit our volunteer page for more details.

Field services: Response times to requests for field services may be longer than normal. Please allow up to 72 hours for stray dog pickups. Call 602-506-7387 for information on stray dog pickups. Residents may bring stray dogs to West Valley animal shelter only. We do not accept nor pick up stray cats.

Stray dogs: Those who find stray dogs are asked to file a report with the shelter, try to find the dog’s owner and if they aren’t successful may bring the dog to the West Valley Shelter, 9-6 weekdays and 9-5 weekends or call 602-506-7387. People are encouraged to list the dog missing on the shelter’s Lost and Found website. Our Lost and Found Department is adding staff and hours in an effort to return more lost pets to their owners.

Licensing: Residents can obtain a dog license online or in-person at out West Valley animal shelter. A current rabies vaccination is required to obtain a license.

Donations: To make a donation of our most-needed supplies, visit our Amazon Shelter Wish List. To make a direct donation, click here.

Mission Statement: Working together to serve the animals and people of Maricopa County. Vision Statement: We envision a community in which all pets are part of a family, provided with compassionate care and companionship. We strive to be an innovative and trusted resource for the community.

JOIN OUR TEAM

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control employees are committed to animal welfare, and we are always looking to add talented individuals to our team, either at our West or East Valley Animal Care Centers. As one of the nation’s largest open-admission shelters, we work with our community to serve the animals and people of Maricopa County. Our adoptions, foster, kennel, behavior and animal control teams learn first-hand about proper care of homeless, stray and neglected animals and work hard to find them new homes.
